SCORED FOR:
Soloist, SATB, piano
OCCASION:
High Holy Days
COMPOSITION DATE:
c. 1987
DESCRIPTION:
A setting that is entirely melodic, with a congregational refrain.
The music is deceptively simple.
Soloist and choir should be careful to sing the text
with the appropriate drama, colour, contrasts and dynamics,
especially in the sections listing possible destinies.
The meaning of the text should inform the interpretation.
BACKGROUND:
Written for Meir's daughter, Nadia.
This piece was a nod to the tradition of having child soloists
sing with the Cantor, as Meir and his brother Aryeh had done
with their father.
